Our Ghazal King Jagjit Singh Passes Away

‘Chitthi na koi sandes, jaane wo kaunsa des jahan tum chale gaye…’ It has been one of the popular gazhals of the legend Jagjit Singh who is passed away. He was admitted in Lilawati hospital on 23 September due to the brain haemorrhage. The surgery was successful, but his condition did not improved and on Monday morning he got terrible haemorrhage and died at 8 A.M.

His birth place is Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. his four sisters and two brothers and other family members called him as Jeet.
Jagjit Singh is well-known ghazal singer who has sung in different languages that is Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujrati, Bengali and Nepali. No doubt he was born talented and all for his talent he is the recipeint of Padma Bushan award. When we talk about the start, then it was just small mehfils where he sung his ghazal and from there he started his career.

In Bollywood movies we have heard some of his ghazals. Hosh walo ko khabar kya from Sarfrosh, koi fariyad from Tum bin, etc. are much popular and every one of us have heard. Do you know that he is the only person who introduced and used the 12 string guitar and the bass guitar in ghazal singing. Yes it is a great loss for India especially. ‘Hothon se chhoolo tum, mera geet amar kardo..’ Although he is not present in between us, but still Jagjit Singh will be remembered with his evergreen presence of his beautiful ghazal compositions.
